But we're dealing with them better and better. How'd you get up there?
She's such a big girl now I feel like I'm constantly doing double-takes. She had a friend over to play at our house for the first time ever. They played near each other, and batted their eyes and grinned at each other. Before lunch, while his mom and I were chatting, they had a conversation. He saw a bird; she showed him where to look for birds. "There birds outside. You see birds? You see birds in the tree?" She cried when he left.
This morning, she asked where he is, days later. This afternoon, something triggered her memory, and she reenacted the bird conversation. "You see birds, Nico?" Her companionship (when she's not kicking me in the face while I try to change her diaper) has been entertaining and comforting lately.
We are unsettled in the extreme right now. On one hand, nothing has changed. On the other, the time for packing and leaving is just around the corner. Both of us, in our head and aloud, go around and around about what to do. Some of the factors in our equation remain unknown. We don't have enough information to solve the problem. We have to do that hardest thing--wait. I won't tire you, or myself, by talking any more about it. Solstice, Christmas, Winter, Life is the thing right now. Celebration is the thing. Every year, the New Year's arrival means more and more to me. It used to make me anxious and discontented, not to mention overly self-critical. But now it is the turning of a fresh page. Time to have another go at integrating peace, joy and good health into our lives. I'm smiling just thinking about it. But until the end of next week, I'll be integrating spritz cookies, cheese straws, and pizzelles into my life. Know what I mean? I hope to come back later this week to show you some of my Handmade Holidays, almost all of which have yet to be made. Blast! If not, a Merry Christmas to you, if you celebrate it. If you have a bored or restless moment, may I suggest reading The Blue Carbuncle (preferably in a book) with a cup of tea? And then maybe taking a bath?
